How I Learned to Feel My Best Every Day

August 05, 20244 min read

Today, I want to share a deeply personal journey—one that has shaped who I am and how I approach life every day. Embracing midlife has been a transformative experience for me, filled with its fair share of struggles and successes. But through it all, I've learned to feel my best, and I'm excited to share some tips on how you can, too.

The Struggles

Let's start with the struggles, because let's be real—midlife isn't always a smooth ride. I remember feeling overwhelmed by the physical and emotional changes that seemed to happen overnight. Hot flashes, mood swings, and a slowing metabolism left me feeling like I was on a rollercoaster that I never signed up for.

On top of that, juggling my businesses, aging parents with failing health, and life’s pitfalls (home, finances kids etc) felt like a never-ending balancing act. There were days when I questioned if I could keep it all together. I felt like I was losing control over my own body and mind, and that was incredibly frustrating.

The Turning Point

My turning point came when I realized that fighting against these changes was only making things worse. I needed to embrace this new phase of life and find ways to thrive in it. Acceptance became my mantra. I started by making small, manageable changes to my daily routine that made a big difference in how I felt.

Finding Joy in Daily Routines

One of the most important lessons I learned was to find joy in my daily routines. Here are a few ways I did that:

1. Morning Rituals: I began each day with a simple morning ritual. I start off with my “Happy Juice” for energy and focus, & a few minutes of calm meditation or journaling, set a positive tone for the day. It helped me start my day with calm and focus. 2. Movement: Incorporating regular exercise into my routine was a game-changer. Whether it's a brisk walk, HIIT class, or a weight training session, moving my body not only improved my physical health but also boosted my mood immensely.

3. Healthy Eating: I started paying more attention to what I ate. Fueling my body with nutritious foods made a noticeable difference in my energy levels and overall well-being. I took note of how I felt and how the food I was eating was affecting my mood and body.   I found joy in experimenting with new recipes and discovering healthy foods that I loved like my Kale Quinoa Salad with Grilled Chicken.

4. Self-Care: I made self-care a non-negotiable part of my daily, weekly and monthly routine. Regular at-home facials, listening to uplifting podcasts, and quiet time with a good book became my go-to stress relievers. Taking time for myself wasn't selfish; it was necessary.

Maintaining a Positive Mindset

Staying positive was key to my journey of self-acceptance. Here are a few strategies that worked for me:

1. Gratitude Practice: Each day, I wrote down 5 things I was grateful for. This simple practice shifted my focus from what was going wrong to what was going right. Take a look at Sarah Ban Breathnach’s Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort of Joy for more on this.

2. Affirmations: Positive affirmations became a powerful tool. I repeated phrases like "I am fit and fabulous," "I am achieving my true potential," and "I am strong & capable" to myself daily. Over time, these affirmations helped reshape my mindset. Grab a copy of my 30 Days of Positive Affirmations for Midlife Women here

3. Mindfulness:  Practicing mindfulness while I was enjoying my morning “Happy Juice”, kept me grounded in the present moment. It helped me appreciate the little things and reduced my stress levels significantly.

Staying Motivated

Staying motivated wasn't always easy, but I found ways to keep myself on track:

1. Set Goals: I set small, achievable goals and celebrated my progress along the way. Whether it was sticking to a new workout routine or trying a new stress reducing activity, these goals kept me motivated.

2. Find a Support System: Surrounding myself with supportive friends and family made a huge difference. Having a community to share my journey with provided encouragement and accountability. Join my Midlife Menopause Makeover group to find women just like you looking to level up in this phase of life.

3. Celebrate Successes: Celebrating even the smallest successes kept me motivated. I learned to acknowledge and appreciate my efforts, no matter how minor they seemed.
